The Impossible Mrs. Bellew, Gloria Swanson, 1922.
(Original Caption)
“The Glorious Gloria in a Glorious Gown. And now they are making dresses out of steel. Miss Gloria Swanson proves it. The plate from scrapped battleships had to be disposed of. So the successful bidders of our navy junk made an arrangement with the best dressmakers and costume designers in the country to use the metal. This is the result. The dress is made of cut steel plates, penny size, and steel chaining over an underdress of gray draping silk.” August 28, 1922.
